Sam Elliott - Gen. John Buford

Once again here's Sam Elliott, this time as General John Buford from "Gettysburg".  I tried doing something a little different in the background by utilizing a technique from JC Leyendecker which didn't come out the way Leyendecker does it. Oh well...Ya gotta try. Canvas 18"x24"

Dino Designer Color

This was just a really quick painting of a T-Rex I've been wanting to get out of my system for awhile now. Since most paleontologists really don't know what color dinosaurs were, I figured why not a bumblebee colored T-Rex?
On canvas paper 9"x12"

Introspection + Progression

Here's a portrait I like to call introspection. Again, I must apologize for the crappy quality of the photo. I'm a lousy photographer. The painting looks much better in real life. On canvas 16"x20"
I've been wanting to show a progression on how my painting starts out, but I always forget to take pictures...and it's just as well because the following pictures were out of focus so I tried to correct that in photoshop.

The first step after I pencil in the subject is to paint in the darkest areas with diluted burnt umber. This gives it a water-color like appearance at first.
After that I went in and started to add some color and I also added more layers of burnt umber and alizarin crimson into the shaded areas.
Once the desired color is found I just keep adding more layers using thicker coats of paint. For this particular portrait I decided to get rid of the subjects fingers that were peeking out from under her arm. After I was satisfied with the main subject I went in and added a little color in the background.

FINALLY!

I finally finished a painting I promised my brother-in-law last year. It's funny folk who have passed on playing poker. They are from left to right; John Belushi, George Carlin, Rodney Dangerfield and John Candy. Taa Daa.
