Sam Elliott - Cowboy

One of the great character actors out there is Sam Elliot. Not only is he well suited for westerns but he's also equally at home in modern action/comedy films as well. I have a feeling I'll probably be painting Mr. Elliot again. On canvas 18"x24"

Ben Bailey

I'm a huge fan of Cash Cab...it's a game show on the Discovery channel hosted by Ben Bailey. The fourth season is supposed to start April 20th! This painting was done on canvas paper 9"x12".

Kill da Wabbit!!

One of my favorite subjects to paint...cute girls with funky head gear. This is a smaller painting done on 12" x 15" canvas paper. This was a lot of fun. BTW most of my knowledge of Opera is from Bugs Bunny cartoons. So you see...watching cartoons can, indeed, be educational. The woman in the painting is Lisa Bettany and she's a hell of a photographer. Her blog is Mostlylisa. Check out some of her awesome photos over at Flickr.

The Joker

It seems pretty moot now, but here's my rendition of Heath Ledger's iconic take on the Joker. Note that there is no light reflection in the eyes. Most subjects you tend to see some sort of reflection of light which gives the subject a subconscious "twinkle in the eye" the window to the soul. Here we have none. Interesting. Or not. On canvas 18" x 24".

Collie

This is a recent smaller painting done on canvas paper 9"x12". I think this the first breed of dog I remember as a child probably due to "Lassie". This marks the fourth dog painting so far.

Natalie Portman

I was trying to be all artsy-fartsy with this one. Natalie Portman is, of course, a very beautiful actress, but she's got some weird looking ears. Not that there's anything wrong with that. You should see mine. It's on canvas 24" x 36" black and white.

Mr. Spock

This was my very first attempt at smaller "Sketch-paint" Using canvas paper. I did this as fast as I could...took about an hour. The term "sketch paint" is from a fantastic artist by the name of Micheal Dooney. He's got a great blog called, funny enough, Sketchpaints. Although it's been awhile since he's posted anything, but he's a professional artist....so I cut him some slack.;)

Alaskan Malamute

I love this type of dog. Very powerful with beautiful eyes. Of course I love all dogs pretty much. This is another smaller painting done on canvas paper image size 8" x 8/12". This was the second smaller painting I did. Used a stiff bristle brush to stipple the paint to get the the illusion of the heavy fur coat.

Kate Beckinsale

This was the third smaller paintings I've done on canvas paper 12" X 15". I painted as fast as I could and it took about 2-3 hours. There's all sorts of pictures of Kate Beckinsale where she looks more glamorous and gorgeous but I liked this particular reference with her knit cap on.

Abraham Lincoln

I never realized how misshapen Mr. Lincoln's face was. Apparently he was hit in the face by a horse as a child and as a result half his face grew a bit differently. Also he had blue/green eyes, but here they look more green. Masonite board 18" x 24"

Herman Munster

One of my other all-time favorite TV shows is "The Munsters". Herman Munster pre-dated Homer Simpson in the lovable, man/child, idiot department. That is due to the incredible Fred Gwynne, who not only was an accomplished actor, but a hell of an artist himself.

Chupi

This is my cat Chupi-loopy. This was a real quick paint/sketch. He's a great cat. Very friendly. Canvas paper. Image size 4" x 5"

Hunter S. Thompson

I did this for my nephew a year ago for Christmas. Took 3-4 days. Now that's a Christmas miracle. I think part of it has to do with the fact that I didn't have to paint the eyes.
Canvas 24" x 30"

Lion

Another small study...this time of a lion. My favorite part of this one is the surface the lion is resting upon. I just used a gob of burnt umber, white and black paint and used a palette knife to create the texture. Canvas paper 12" x 15"

Mark Twain

One of my all time favorite American authors and humorists. Mr. Samuel Clemens aka Mark Twain. Tons o' fun to paint. This particular piece didn't take all that long to do (which for me is a miracle) it's done on canvas 24" x 30". This is actually the second painting I've done of Mr. Clemens. The first I gave to my Sister ;) in Texas. This will probably not be the last. Sorry about the crappy resolution. It looks much better in real life. Really.

Snow pup

Here's another puppy. I guess I should state up front there's gonna be a lot of puppies in this blog....so get used to it. Besides who doesn't like puppies? No one. This was for my other Sister ;) on the East coast. Once again acrylic (most of my paintings are acrylic unless otherwise stated) on canvas paper image size about 7" x 8" ? Something like that.

Murray Christmas

I made this for my Sister ;) as a Christmas card using canvas paper. Image size is around 8" x 10" . Not sure if it looks like Bill Murray, but that's who it's supposed to be. Bill is one of my all-time favorite actor/comedian's. My favorite role of his was as Bunny Breckinridge from Tim Burton's Ed Wood. Que Sara, Sara

A horse is a horse....

Here's a smaller painting done on canvas paper. I think the actual image size is like 4" x 3" or something like that...so if you click on it it looks sort of weird cause it's appearing bigger than the actual image. This was done back in January I believe.

Fred G. Sanford

Here's another early painting. This was done about two years ago. Mr. Redd Foxx as Fred G. Sanford from one of my all-time favorite shows "Sanford and Son". Had a blast painting this. The hat was a little time consuming because I stippled the black and white on, but it was worth it. The hair was also fun to do. I think painting hair is one of my favorite things to do. Acrylic on canvas 22" x 28"

Puppies!

Here's a more recent painting done on canvas paper. The canvas paper is 12" X 15", but the painting itself is probably only 8" x 10" again with acrylic. Puppies are not only fun in real life, but they're also fun to paint. You can't go wrong with puppies. OK all together now...."Awwwwwwwwwwww."
Also....I really need to improve my penmanship. That looks like something I would've signed as a ten year old.

Wonder Woman

Here's another early painting I did...in fact it's the second painting I ever did. Obviously it's my take on Terry Dodson's Wonder Woman. I wanted to see if I could paint reflective metal. Took forever, but I was happy with the result. Acrylic on canvas 28" X 22"
BTW - I highly recommend the new DVD Wonder Woman
from legendary producer Bruce Timm and Director Lauren Montgomery. It's rated PG-13.

Hi and welcome to my blog. It's to showcase my art work. In the past couple of years I've taken up acrylic painting...never thought I would take up the brush...but I love it.
I've always been into art, as it were, (drawing mostly) but never took it too seriously.
In this blog I'll put up a few of the paintings I've done (some good, some bad, some really bad) and hopefully later on can show some progressions. First up is one of my earlier paintings (about three years ago) done on canvas 24" x 36" Not a very good scan, but you get the idea.

ETA - This was my very first post (never blogged before) my painting of Johnny should've appeared above the post instead of after. Oh well.
